Poll workers are hired by the county, must reside and be registered to vote in the precinct where they want to work. Training is required, and you must be available to work at the polling place the entire day on Nov 3. This is a paid position (pay varies by county).
Poll monitors serve as observers outside the polling place. There is no formal application process, residency requirement, or fixed schedule. These volunteers are generally affiliated with an organization, and provide assistance to voters and monitor activity at the polling place to ensure voter safety.
Poll watchers protect the election process by observing activity inside and outside the polling location, and must be nominated by the county party or a candidate. To serve as a poll watcher, you must be an Alabama resident and adhere to specific rules to protect voters and the election process.
Students at least 16 yrs old, enrolled in High School or a 2-4 year college, may apply to work at the polls in their county of residence. Application is required, including recommendation from a school official. Participation in training is required.
